Frequently Asked Questions

Are your products approved?

All the major turbine manufacturers approve all of the EHC products sold. Click here to view the approval letters.

We heard a rumor that your brand of EHC fluid isn’t readily available, or that the manufacturer has discontinued the stock. Is that true?

Great Lakes Chemical Corporation (now Chemtura) continues to manufacture all grades of its functional fluids. They have closed their United States facility and have concentrated all manufacturing in their Manchester, United Kingdom Facility. Material is stocked in the United Stares in Charlotte, NC.

How fast can you deliver barrels of fluid?

Shipments are made on a next day basis from a stocking point in Charlotte, NC. Emergency shipments can be “hot shotted”.

Is the fluid compatible with Fyrquel?

All of the Reolube EHC fluids are approved by all the major turbine manufacturers. They are completely compatible with all other phosphate ester based EHC fluids with such trade names as FYRQUEL.

Who else is using it?

Reolube Turfofluids are being used worldwide. North American users include at least the following;  Bruce Power, Exelon, Carolina Power & Light, Consumer's Power, Florida Power & Light, Georgia Power, LCRA, Kentucky Utilities, NB Power, Nebraska PECO, Public Power District, Newfoundland Labrador Hydro, Southern Co., TXU and others.

What is a blend and what fluids do you offer?

A blended fluid is a mix of different types of triaryl phosphates.  The resulting mixture is often a compromise of characteristics and as such is not offered by GLCC.  We believe that if you need the benefits of a 'synthetic' phosphate ester like 46B then 100% is better. Similarly if you require the lower air release times of a 'natural' fluid then a 100% natural like 46XC is preferred.  Most industry experience is on a 100% product. Please see the chart showing product cross-references.

What is the best purification media?

Forsythe Technology feels that in most applications Fullers Earth provides the best results in critical acid reduction and moisture removal. In more critical conditions, recommendations on Ion Exchange Resin filter systems can be made.

How much filtration do I require?

Usually the amount of media will be controlled by the canister size in the unit. Forsythe Technology with the assistance of Utility Service Associates can provide consulting on proper usage of that media. This would be directed to optimizing the contact time required for the fluid and the media.

How much water is too much?

The drier the better as these fluids love to breakdown in the presence of moisture. As a maximum, follow OEM EHC unit specifications.

What can you do if the resistivity is low?

On an individual basis Forsythe Technology can make recommendations on corrective actions to be taken.

How stable is your fluid, and for how long?

Forsythe Technology believes that with proper maintenance fluid life may be infinite. Fluid placed in a unit in December of 1984, without flushing, is operating today within OEM turbine specifications more than 19 years later.

Can I mix new EHC fluid with old?

Yes, you certainly can.

Do you serve North America only, or the world?

Forsythe Technology serves only the United States of America. Forsythe Lubrication Associates serves Canada. The manufacturer of the fluids, Great Lakes Chemical Corporation (now Chemtura) has agents in all other parts of the world.
